The September celebrations are back; come and celebrate on Ambergris Caye!

After a COVID-19 pandemic pause for the last two years, Belize is preparing to host its popular September celebrations, again honoring the country’s month of patriotism. After public health restrictions were lifted in April this year, the National Celebrations Commission announced that they would resume the traditional events this September. In San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, the celebrations will be observed with patriotic parades, ceremonies for the Battle of St. George’s Caye and Independence Day, a Soca festival, and the anticipated carnival road march, among other activities still to be confirmed.

After a two-year hiatus, lobster festivals are back in Belize!

Although the Caribbean Spiny Lobster may have enjoyed a two-year reprieve from festivals dedicated to devouring them, the sorely missed lobster festivals are back! The lobster season officially opened on July first, and three different destinations in Belize are resurrecting their annual festivals dedicated to these tasty crustaceans.

On Tuesday, May 31st, just after 2:30PM, Mexican social media influencer travel blogger, documentarist, and YouTuber, Alex Tienda arrived in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, via Tropic Air. The audiovisual content producer has over 300 million views on social media, and his visit to Belize is expected to expose the country significantly, especially among his millions of followers from around the world.

The 2022 four-day La Ruta Maya River Challenge will take place over the weekend of Friday, March 4th to Monday, March 7th, commemorating National Heroes and Benefactors Day. Alaia introduces its exclusive ‘Alaia Tropical Pale Ale’

There is a brand-new beer in San Pedro Town, a refreshing, very approachable, and flavourful pale ale only found at the luxurious Marriott’s Alaia Beach Resort. The beer, dubbed ‘Alaia Tropical Pale Ale,’ is locally brewed by Bowen and Bowen, modest in alcohol at 5.5%, but complex in character thanks to the notes from Belizean grapefruit and Alaia’s ale yeasts. This pale ale bridges the gap between dark stouts and light lagers.

BTB announces resumption of seasonal flights from Westjet and Southwest in November

Starting, November 3, WestJet resumed flights to Belize from Toronto, Canada.  WestJet’s flight to Belize is seasonal, visiting every Wednesday and Saturday with the last flight for the winter season departing Belize on April 30, 2022. Southwest Airlines will resume its daily flights to Belize from Houston on Sunday, November 7.  Southwest’s flight from Denver will resume on Saturday, November 20, flying to Belize every Saturday after for the winter season through April 2022.

Xe’il, meaning “True to our Roots” – a meaningful brand designed and developed to provide a source of economic empowerment to Mayan women and showcase the dawn of a fashion era emerging from Southern Belize. The establishment of Xe’il started in October of 2019 and was executed by the Sarstoon Temash Institute for Indigenous Management (SATIIM) with financial support from The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) through its Cultural and Creative Industries Innovative Fund (CIIF) to position Maya women as national artists and bring their creative products to a wider market, starting with new fashion designs adorned with Xokb’il Chuy.

Getting the COVID-19 Vaccine? Traveling to Belize will be easy!

Belize started welcoming international guests on October 1, 2020. Since then, our travel regulations have continuously evolved, making it easier to visit the country. Under the Belize Tourism Board’s (BTB) most recent travel regulation update, COVID-19 tests are no longer needed if a visitor is fully immunized. For those not vaccinated yet, the PCR test required timeframe has increased from within 72 hours to 96 hours of travel and 48 hours for the rapid test.

Despite COVID protocols, dining out is still great FUN

After almost a year of lockdowns, stay at home orders, and border closures, we are slowly returning to a new norm under the current COVID-19 pandemic. There have been some tough times, forcing us to adapt to a new way of living. Even with the increased health measures and mandatory mask-wearing, I am glad we have reached a point where we can go out and enjoy some time at our favorite restaurant or hangout spot.
