If there is one celebration that perfectly captures the flavor, energy, and community spirit of Ambergris Caye, it’s the San Pedro Lobster Festival. Every July, as Belize’s spiny lobster season officially opens, the island comes alive with delicious cuisine, live entertainment, and plenty of reasons to celebrate. This year’s festivities wrapped up in spectacular fashion with the annual Lobster Festival Block Party on Saturday, July 11th, drawing locals and visitors together for an evening filled with food, music, and island fun.

Held at the Hon. Louis Sylvestre Sports Complex—better known as Saca Chispas Field—the Block Party marked the grand finale of more than a week of Lobster Festival celebrations. Leading up to the event, the popular Lobster Crawl encouraged food lovers to explore participating restaurants across the island, sampling creative lobster dishes, signature cocktails, and one-of-a-kind culinary creations.

As the sun began to set, the festivities kicked off with lively performances by the Panerrifix Steel Band and the San Pedro Dance Academy, setting the perfect tropical atmosphere. Guests wandered from booth to booth, savoring everything from grilled lobster tails and lobster tacos to inventive seafood creations paired with refreshing island cocktails.

More than just a food festival, the San Pedro Lobster Festival is a celebration of the people who make San Pedro special. Local fishermen, talented chefs, restaurateurs, artisans, musicians, and volunteers all come together to showcase the island’s warm hospitality and vibrant culture. It’s the kind of event where visitors quickly find themselves dancing with locals, making new friends, and embracing Belize’s fun-loving lifestyle.

One of the evening’s highlights was recognizing the outstanding culinary talent displayed throughout the festival. Mahogany Bay earned top honors for Best Lobster Dish, followed by Anglers Seafood Restaurant and Estel’s Dine by the Sea. In the Best Drink competition, Tiburon Rum captured first place, while Alaia Belize and Mahogany Bay rounded out the winners. Jyoto also received recognition for its eye-catching Best Booth Design, proving that presentation is just as much a part of the experience as the food itself.

Throughout the night, raffle prizes rewarded guests who had participated in events during the week, adding even more excitement to an already festive atmosphere. Live entertainment continued well into the evening as families, couples, and groups of friends celebrated under the stars.

Behind the scenes, the event was organized by the San Pedro Business Association‘s Lobsterfest Committee, led by Chairperson Rebecca Arceo, whose team of volunteers worked tirelessly to bring the festival to life. Thanks to their dedication—and the continued support of sponsors, vendors, and community partners—the festival continues to grow each year while maintaining its welcoming, community-centered spirit.

Visitors looking to experience the very best of Belize’s culinary culture should add San Pedro Lobsterfest to their travel calendar. Whether you’re enjoying a beachfront lobster dinner during the Lobster Crawl or dancing the night away at the Block Party, the festival offers an unforgettable blend of incredible seafood, lively entertainment, and authentic island hospitality.

With next year marking the festival’s 20th anniversary, organizers are already planning an even bigger celebration. If you’ve been looking for the perfect excuse to visit Ambergris Caye in July, this is it. Come hungry, bring your dancing shoes, and discover why Lobsterfest has become one of Belize’s most beloved annual traditions.

I’m a sucker for a fuzzy face, a feathered face, a face with fins or even one with scales! I am in love with the creatures and the flora that are synonymous with Belize and every opportunity I have to learn more about them and explore their wild habitats I am there! I’m the happiest when I’m snorkeling the reef and swimming with turtles, however my passion is not just limited to critters! Laced throughout this compact jungle gem of a country live the Kriol, Maya, Garifuna, Mestizo and Spanish people, and experiencing each culture, especially their celebrations is one of my favorite pastimes.
