Caye Caulker is a small limestone island off the coast of Belize City and relatively close to Ambergris Caye. The island is about five miles long and less than one mile in width at its widest point. Caye Caulker is also only a mile west from the Belize Barrier Reef.
Caye Caulker is known for its relaxing ambiance and attracts backpackers searching for a budget friendly destination. Caye Caulker boasts white sand beaches, great diving and snorkeling. There is slow development on the island with unpaved streets. The only traffic sign on the island instructs golf carts and bicycles to ‘go slow,’ a directive that that has become the island motto.
