It goes without saying; if you’ve ever been to San Pedro before or if you’re lucky enough to live there then you’ll know. The first name that comes to mind when thinking about delicious wines is, of course, Wine de Vine, the island’s go to source for all the many flavors and textures that you’re eager to taste and enjoy. Wine de Vine offers what is surely the widest selection of wines and champagnes anywhere on the island, in fact, one of the largest in the country. Wine lovers will definitely be able to find familiar wines that they have developed a fancy for as well as discover new and interesting names that they’ve never experienced. Also, as any wine enthusiast will tell you, the perfect bottle of wine paired with the right slice of cheese will keep you coming back for more. So most naturally, Wine de Vine’s selection of cheeses is beyond any you’ll find anywhere on the island.

Every Friday from 5 to 8 in the evening, Wine de Vine keeps its doors open for its weekly “Friday Wine Social”, where everyone is invited to come and enjoy their wide selection of delightful wines paired with generous samples of some of the best cheeses you’ll ever taste in your life. Stiltons infused with mango/ginger or lemon zest, Knoblauch, Manchego, Wenseleydale with cranberries, a creamy Port Salut, it’s a delightful array of flavors that will tantalize your senses and leave you eager to sample another incredible selection. Choose from one of the pre-arranged assortments of cheese with accompanying wine, carefully assembled by local authority on wines and spirits, Mrs. Flor Bradley, who probably knows as much about wine as the wine producers themselves. Or you can hand select your favorites and assemble your very own creation just the way you like it.

When asked about a wine social some may think that they wouldn’t feel welcomed or might feel out of place. “I don’t know about wine”, “I have no idea what wines are from where or which ones are the good ones”, are just a few of the comments that people may utter when deciding if they should go or not. At Wine de Vine’s Friday wine socials you’ll be pleasantly surprised just how welcomed you are. When you walk into Wine de Vine it’s like you’re coming home. You’re instantly adopted into a family of siblings who welcome you with smiles and hugs. Fact is that there are quite a few loyal family members who plan their trips and work schedules around the weekly wine social. These loyal ‘vines’ make sure to be on the island and available to meet up with the “family” to sip some more of the good stuff. If you don’t know that much about wine, don’t worry, your new wine-related brothers and sisters are more than willing to share their hard earned knowledge of the glorious grape nectar. “I come here nearly every Friday evening, and just have to enjoy a couple glasses of wine,” said Dianne, one of the loyal ‘vines’ who make their home there every Friday. If you find yourself lost among the spectacle of endless selections and not sure what to choose, Dianne is just one of many who will be sure to take you on the fantastic journey along the sea of red and white bliss and introduce you to their favorites.

The selection of wines and champagne available at Wine de Vine is very impressive. Chardonnays, Rosés, Merlots, Cabernets, Malbecs, you name it. Wine de Vine has all of those and more. Not only does Wine de Vine sell wines; it is also the distributor of many of the very wines it sells. What that means for you is that you will be able to get a tall glass of Mapu Reserva or a bottle of Mâcon-Lugny Les Genièvres at a price noticeably lower than you’d find it anywhere else. Add to that the fact that Wine de Vine recently became the official partner for Moët Hennessy Liquors in Belize and you have yourself a recipe for blissful enjoyment. World class wines, a cool sociable atmosphere with a group of old or new found friends and a wide variety of delectable cheeses all for a price that just about anyone can afford. An evening at Wine de Vine is surely not to miss.

I’m a sucker for a fuzzy face, a feathered face, a face with fins or even one with scales! I am in love with the creatures and the flora that are synonymous with Belize and every opportunity I have to learn more about them and explore their wild habitats I am there! I’m the happiest when I’m snorkeling the reef and swimming with turtles, however my passion is not just limited to critters! Laced throughout this compact jungle gem of a country live the Kriol, Maya, Garifuna, Mestizo and Spanish people, and experiencing each culture, especially their celebrations is one of my favorite pastimes.
