El Cayo Festival Celebrates Culture, Community, and Adventure in Western Belize

Looking for a reason to head west this weekend? San Ignacio and Santa Elena are calling! Pack your sense of adventure and get ready for a colorful celebration of Belizean culture, delicious food, music, and community spirit as the El Cayo Festival returns October 10–11, 2026!

Organized by the Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) Cayo Chapter, the two-day celebration embraces the theme “Multiple Cultures, One People,” showcasing the rich heritage, traditions, and warm hospitality that make western Belize such a special destination.

Now in its second year, the festival brings residents and visitors together along the scenic Macal River for a lively lineup of cultural performances, traditional dancing, live music, local cuisine, sporting competitions, and family-friendly entertainment. Visitors can also support local artisans, food vendors, and entrepreneurs while experiencing the best of Cayo’s vibrant community.

Among the weekend’s highlights is the Orlando and Richard Harrison Memorial Canoe Race on Sunday, October 11, beginning at 10AM. Honoring two brothers with strong ties to Belize’s canoeing community, the race takes paddlers from Hawksworth Bridge to the Baking Pot Ferry and back.

More than just a weekend celebration, the El Cayo Festival invites Belizeans and international visitors alike to experience the district’s remarkable blend of cultures, natural beauty, and outdoor adventures.

So why not make a weekend of it? Gather your family and friends, take a scenic drive west, explore the charming twin towns, sample delicious local flavors, cheer on the competitors, and join the festivities! Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a longtime Cayo enthusiast, this is your invitation to experience the people, traditions, and infectious energy that make western Belize unforgettable. See you in El Cayo!
